Università degli Studi di Udine Facoltà di Ingegneria | ManagerZen Progetti Srl

‘Università degli studi’ at Udine, in collaboration with ManagerZen Projects, is organising:

MASTER “Evolutionary Management®â€

Management nei mercati e nelle organizzazioni complesse in evoluzione

Prof. Alberto F. De Toni
“The old universe was a perfectly timed watch. The new universe is like elusive smoke.â€
Edgar Morin, 1999

If Managers want to run their businesses in the tempestuous waters of today’s world it is fundamental that they acquire a new type of knowledge: that being management of co-evolution. One must join the concept of the profitability of business with an understanding of the dynamics, which direct the constant changes in the real economy.
A company is an organised structure with an evolving trajectory and an intrinsic capacity of self-organisation. It’s a constant interaction with a changing world. This vision hints at new principles of behaviour, from those of evolving management, to those, which utilize this knowledge of dynamic evolution to find new modes of action.

The Premise
Within this increasingly complex society, traditional organisational-managerial approaches and practises do not appear to be at a level, which can respond adequately to the increasing requirements.
This proposed Master goes beyond the traditional functional, reductionism approach which studies Enterprise in various sections: marketing, finance etc. The “Evolutionary Management†Master is based on a systematic and holistic method, which begins at the individual, before exploring connections and co-evolutionary interactions with the whole ecosystem, looking at the organisation and market.

The non-deterministic aspect of these phenomena should not be tackled with a solely rational approach. An evolving manager should have intuition, vision and creativity to be able to understand and recognise changes quickly and orient decisions accordingly. However, more is needed as-well: empathy, effective management of emotions and stress in order to confront risk, hazards and the dynamism inbuilt to these vivid systems, with efficiency.

The Master has two cores: the rational, and the emotional. From one core, it supplies innovative managerial tools for the running of a business; and from the other, it provides emotional tools for the development of creative approaches.

Objectives
•    Develop analysis and solution skills within a managerial context, which is characterised by multi-layered dynamics, strong instability and an unbalanced state.
•    Understand the laws governing the evolution of the systems.
•    Gain general knowledge on the disciplines, which are the foundations of evolving management, such as evolution (in business), theory on complexity, theory on networks, self-organisation, creativity etc.
•    Elaborate on the study of the most innovative organisational and managerial skills, which allow the manager to successfully run a business, which evolves with the environment.
•    Develop the capacity to integrate a theoretical- deductive approach with an inductive-experience based approach.
•    Develop the personal standards and ability necessary to tackle with greater efficiency, an environment complex in its evolution.

Recipients
The Master is aimed at businessmen, executives and managers. Reference areas include: strategy of business, innovation, organisational development, human resources, internal communication, marketing and foreign relations etc. Professionals motivated to enhance their understanding of the real economy, which continually transforms, and to utilize means and coherent approaches. Managers with working experience who want to take new keys to reading the systematic nature of reality, and of integrating with new ability their own professionalism.

Contents

The Master is split into four sections, following the principal hologram for which one part is in the whole, and the whole is in the part.
•    THE INDIVIDUAL:  the entrepreneurial dream, evolving leadership, equilibrium and flexibility, intuitive perception and ability etc
•    ORGANISATION: organised culture, self-organisation, community practise, ‘chaordic’ management, social network analysis, creative approaches (from storytelling to the collective unconscious), etc.
•    MARKET: the evolution of strategic management, new paradigms in managerial innovation (open innovation, disruptive innovation), strategy and potential of a situation, complex markets, scenarios of economic movement, etc.
•    ECOSYSTEM: evolution, theories and tools for handling complexity, theory on networks, collective intelligence, technological foresight, collective consciousness and mutual dependence etc.

Method
The Didactic methodologies are explored in classrooms (theories, models) and applications (metrological, tools, practises) and workshops are used for the practical experience (meditation, experimentation, learning). The two proposed approaches (theory-deductive on the one hand, experience-inductive on the other) are not considered in polarity, and they contribute to the added value of the Master. Indeed, complexity is composed of opposites, and the approaches chosen intend to respect this dynamic equilibrium.

The Master attempts to overcome the dichotomy between scientific culture and humanistic, abstract knowledge and that of experience, rational approach and emotional, thoughts and action, body and mind. It intends to demonstrate a managerial thread, which moves through techniques, approaches and metaphors, all of which move on different planes, but still share the same point of departure, the same vision, and aim.

In short:
•    The theoretical-didactic approach schedules a series of head –on lessons, which have the objective of examining the theoretical aspect of the method, and the technically applied aspect. Instruments and classic methods (slides, lessons etc) are used.
•    The experience-inductive approach has two distinct goals: - to support and expand upon cognitive learning -experiment with technical creativity, and to develop new managerial skills.
Both of the approaches offered and the experiences proposed will be exemplified by case studies and business testimonials.
